Personal challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, and low self-esteem can impact academic and聽personal聽functioning.聽

Counseling聽may help you聽to聽identify and explore available options, increase self-awareness, and make realistic decisions about concerns that may聽be distracting聽you from achieving your personal and academic goals.聽聽Speaking with a professional can聽increase聽a student鈥檚 ability to聽achieve聽a sense of clarity and聽in聽turn,聽regain a sense of empowerment to make decisions that feel right.聽

C-CAPS provides a safe, non-judgmental, and highly confidential environment where students can meet with a professional to discuss any discomfort or concerns聽they may have.聽 For situations or conditions that require more comprehensive or longer-term services than the C-CAPS offers, we will assist students with referrals to off-campus providers.

In addition to counseling, C-CAPS offers several other services.聽 These include workshops聽on聽topics such as聽test anxiety, stress management, and assertiveness.聽聽Additional services available can be found聽under our services link.聽

Confidentiality Statement

Confidentiality and trust are聽very important聽to the counseling process.聽 Therefore, except as described below,聽the information disclosed during counseling and the identity of counseling clients聽will not聽be shared聽with anyone outside C-CAPS without the client鈥檚 express (usually written) consent.聽 This confidentiality extends to situations聽in which聽a client is referred to C-CAPS by a faculty member, administrator, or friend.

However, exceptions to confidentiality may be necessary or be required by law when the C-CAPS professional believes there is a risk of harm to yourself, another individual (s), or the university community; in cases of a medical emergency; in situations involving probable child abuse; or other legal mandates.聽 Should that occur,聽relevant information may be disclosed聽only to university personnel聽and/or聽others聽with responsibility聽for protecting safety or with legal jurisdiction.

Situations involving exceptions to confidentiality occur infrequently.聽 We encourage you to talk with a staff counselor or psychologist if you have concerns聽about this.
